The Lagos State Government says Lagos Bus Services Limited has transported more than 60.8 million passengers across the state since May 2019, in what officials described as part of efforts to improve affordable public transportation.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held to mark the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to figures presented by the ministry, LBSL transported 60,882,000 passengers between May 2019 and February 2025. The agency currently moves an average of 42,266 passengers daily and records about 1,000 bus trips every day.
Osiyemi said the service had remained an affordable transport option for Lagos residents, noting that its average fare had consistently stayed lower than fares charged by informal transport operators.
He said LBSL currently has the widest public bus network coverage in the state, with operations across the five IBILE divisions and 13 local government areas, including Ibeju-Lekki, Ojo and Ikorodu.
The commissioner added that the agency operates on 21 corridors and more than 40 bus service routes, supported by six depot facilities and a fleet of 300 buses.
Osiyemi said the performance reflected the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to building an integrated, safe, affordable and efficient transportation system under the THEMES+ Agenda.
He added that the state government would continue to expand public transport infrastructure and improve connectivity across road, rail and water transportation systems in Lagos.
