Madam Modèle Sarafa-Yusuf has declared her intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging continuity, balance, and institutional stability.
In a public notice addressed to party leaders and stakeholders, she said her decision followed “deep reflection and wide consultation,” adding that the current political cycle carries heightened risks that require responsible leadership.
Sarafa-Yusuf, who contested the APC governorship ticket in 2022, noted that she accepted the outcome of that race without destabilising the party. She said the experience strengthened her understanding of political transitions and party discipline.
She maintained that her aspiration is not aimed at undermining the outgoing administration but at preserving what works while improving areas that require attention. She also acknowledged the agitation for power shift to Ogun West, describing it as legitimate but cautioning against allowing zoning debates to create instability.
Warning against populist politics, she stressed that electoral victory must be matched with governability, party cohesion, and investor confidence.
Addressing the gender dimension of her candidacy, Sarafa-Yusuf said while Nigeria has yet to elect a female governor, her ambition is anchored on competence and capacity rather than symbolism.
