The Bauchi Progressives Forum has urged former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, to focus on addressing his past record rather than making what it described as “baseless and reckless allegations” against the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its President, Comrade Isa Sani Warji, the group threw its weight behind Tuggar, describing him as a disciplined and credible public servant who has remained committed to the growth and stability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State.
The Forum rejected claims that the minister has contributed to divisions within the party, insisting that Tuggar has instead played a unifying role by strengthening party structures and mobilising grassroots support across the state.
“At a time when the party faces a challenging political environment in Bauchi State, Ambassador Tuggar has demonstrated courage, resolve, and strategic leadership in consolidating the APC’s base,” the statement said.
The group also took a swipe at Yuguda, accusing him of attempting to regain political relevance through attacks on the minister. It argued that the former governor lacks the moral standing to question Tuggar’s integrity, citing what it described as lingering concerns over the management of public funds during his tenure.
“It is both ironic and unfortunate that a former governor, under whose watch Bauchi State witnessed significant setbacks, would attempt to cast aspersions on a public servant with a demonstrably stronger record of service,” the Forum stated.
The statement referenced alleged issues surrounding the management of over N200 billion during Yuguda’s time in office, as well as claims relating to asset forfeitures, noting that such matters remain part of the public record.
According to the Forum, individuals with unresolved accountability questions should refrain from engaging in what it termed “divisive and discredited politics.”
The group further warned against actions capable of deepening internal rifts within the APC in Bauchi State, stressing that the party would resist any attempt to undermine its cohesion.
Reaffirming its support for Tuggar, the Forum described the minister as a leader whose conduct reflects discipline, vision, and a commitment to the progress of Bauchi State and the strengthening of the APC.
