The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, says Nigeria spent over N400 billion importing solar products in 2025 and more than N200 billion so far in 2026, describing the figures as a reflection of the production gap the country must close.
Halilu stated this following the signing of a partnership agreement between NASENI and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), facilitated by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), to support the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Nigeria First Policy.
According to him, NASENI will supply locally manufactured solar solutions for REA’s electrification projects across the country, with the objective of reducing import dependence, creating jobs, and strengthening Nigeria’s energy security.
He noted that the initiative aligns with NASENI’s investment in Nigeria’s first 40-hectare Solar Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, which is designed to scale local solar manufacturing, support growing energy demand, and position Nigeria as a hub for renewable energy production in Africa.
Halilu added that the partnership demonstrates how government institutions can work together to translate policy into practical outcomes that drive industrialization and economic growth.
