The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) on Tuesday showcased a broad range of homegrown technologies and industrial solutions as it hosted the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, members of the Presidential Communications Team, development partners and senior media professionals on a guided tour of its production facilities in Abuja.

The visit formed part of the Presidential Media Team Tour, an initiative designed to provide Nigerians with firsthand insight into projects and programmes being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Led by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the delegation toured five of the Agency’s production facilities and its showroom, where they were introduced to locally developed technologies and commercially viable industrial products spanning sectors including aviation, clean transportation, agriculture, healthcare and household applications.

The tour underscored NASENI’s expanding role in translating indigenous research into market-ready products, advancing local manufacturing, promoting technology transfer and supporting the Federal Government’s drive to build a productive, innovation-driven economy.

Speaking during the visit, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is steadily translating bold policies into tangible projects, jobs, innovation and economic opportunities across Nigeria.

He described NASENI as a strategic institution driving Nigeria’s industrial transformation through science, engineering and technology, with interventions spanning local manufacturing, renewable energy, agricultural mechanisation, digital technology and skills development.

The Minister said President Tinubu’s vision is to transform Nigeria from a predominantly consumer nation into one driven by production, innovation and exports.

“Our vision is clear: to move Nigeria from being primarily a consumer nation to becoming a nation of producers, innovators and exporters,” he stated.

He added that industrialisation, technology and youth empowerment remain central pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda, creating an enabling environment for investment, enterprise development and sustainable job creation.

Commending the Agency’s management and staff, Idris praised NASENI for advancing indigenous technology and engineering solutions that are strengthening Nigeria’s productive capacity while reducing dependence on imports.

Reflecting on the visit afterwards, the Minister stated that the visit to NASENI offered “another powerful reminder” of President Tinubu’s vision for innovation-led industrialisation, with the Agency demonstrating how research, engineering and strategic partnerships are being translated into practical solutions for national development.

He also commended NASENI’s collaboration with private sector partners, noting that the partnerships were helping to transform innovation into commercially viable products with real economic value.

The Minister specifically praised the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, for what he described as his unwavering commitment to implementing the President’s industrialisation agenda and his consistent efforts at building partnerships between the public and private sectors to deliver practical innovation.

Speaking earlier, Halilu said NASENI is implementing a practical industrialisation strategy centred on local manufacturing, technology transfer, healthcare innovation and the commercialisation of research.

He disclosed that the Agency’s interventions now span eight key industrial sectors, with projects spread across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Our goal is to build sustainable industries by designing products for the Nigerian market, assembling them locally, gradually increasing local content and creating factories that can compete globally. That is how we have been able to establish more than 20 factories within a short period,” Halilu said.

He reiterated NASENI’s commitment to building a globally competitive industrial ecosystem through strategic investments in innovation, commercialisation and partnerships that create jobs, deepen local content and deliver practical solutions to national development challenges.

Halilu expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister, members of the Presidential Communications Team, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, development partners and the visiting media professionals for honouring the Agency’s invitation and taking time to engage with its work.

The delegation included the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga; the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare; the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Mrs. Hadiza Bala Usman; the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Temitope Ajayi; the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Communication and Citizen Engagement, among other senior government officials.

Also on the tour were development partners and prominent media professionals, including Babajide Otitoju, Seun Okinbaloye, Kayode Ladeinde, Gbenga Aruleba, Sumner Sambo, Maupe Ogun and Jaafar Jaafar, who witnessed firsthand the breadth of NASENI’s homegrown technologies and industrial solutions supporting Nigeria’s journey towards self-reliance, industrial competitiveness and sustainable economic growth.
