The Federal Government has tasked the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) with deepening teacher professionalism and accelerating digital transformation as part of efforts to improve learning outcomes and advance ongoing education reforms across the country.
Speaking at the 2026 Three-Day Retreat of the TRCN in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, said quality teachers and strong institutions remained the foundation of national development, stressing that strengthening the teaching profession was critical to achieving sustainable progress in the education sector.
She said reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) were focused on improving foundational learning, strengthening teacher quality, enhancing education governance and expanding the use of digital technology to support effective teaching and learning.
Professor Ahmad urged the TRCN to sustain efforts to promote professional standards, ethical practice and continuous professional development while leveraging technology to improve communication, data management and service delivery.
She also called for stronger collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, the TRCN, the Nigeria Union of Teachers and other stakeholders to equip teachers with the digital competencies required to meet the demands of 21st-century education.
The minister said sustained investment in teachers would remain central to building a globally competitive education system, adding that strengthening professional standards, institutional capacity and technology-driven service delivery would help deliver better learning outcomes for every Nigerian child.
