Nigeria maintained crude oil production at or above its quota set by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for the fifth consecutive month in September 2026, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The commission, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, disclosed that combined crude oil and condensate production averaged approximately 1.72 million barrels per day during the month.

Excluding condensates, crude oil output averaged 1.53 million barrels per day, representing 102 per cent of Nigeria’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day.

NUPRC data showed that Nigeria produced 1.53 million barrels per day in May, 1.55 million in June, 1.51 million in July, 1.50 million in August and 1.53 million in September.

Daily crude oil and condensate production peaked at 1.84 million barrels in September, while the lowest daily output stood at 1.68 million barrels.

The commission attributed the performance to stable operations across producing assets and the absence of major pipeline disruptions, which improved production uptime and crude evacuation.

A breakdown by production terminals showed that Forcados accounted for 320,320 barrels per day, followed by Bonny Terminal with 303,270 barrels per day.

NUPRC said the sustained performance reflected efforts by operators to improve efficiency, maintain infrastructure integrity and strengthen production reliability.

The figures underscore Nigeria’s continued position as Africa’s largest crude oil producer, with higher output offering potential benefits for export earnings and government revenue.
