The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is set to inaugurate its first Security Agencies Relations Committee to be chaired by renowned legal luminary, Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN.
The National Executive Committee of the NBA has stated that it decided to institute the Committee “In light of the incessant harassment of lawyers by members of various security agencies in the country.”
It further noted that the NBA Security Agencies Relations Committee would “liaise with security agencies with a view to stemming this ugly trend and to engender a harmonious and mutually beneficial working relationship between members of the Association and members of the various Security Agencies.”
This Committee, led by the J-K Gadzama SAN who is seen as a leader and father-figure in the legal community is expected to provide a long-needed solution to the challenge of harassment of lawyers and in fact members of the public.
Mr. Gadzama SAN a renowned mediator is well suited to chair this Committee given his network among members of the security community, his wealth of experience in law as well as his accessibility to young lawyers in the country.
Other members of the Committee include, Alex Muoka (Alternate Chairman), Taiwo Lakanu (DIG Rtd.) (Member), Mohammad Tsav (Member), Valentine Odili (Member), Linda Adanna Ubu (Member), M. A. O. Iyamanbhor (Member), Julie Ariahu (Member), Salman Salman (Member), Emeka Otagburagu (Member), Peter C. Ikebuaso (Member) and Marian Jones (Secretary).
The Committee would be inaugurated at the NBA National Secretariat on the 7th of January, 2021 by the association’s President, Olumide Akpata.
