President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a N15 billion take-off grant for the project.
The presidency said the approval is in line with provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the academy beyond its Wudil, Kano base.
The new campus will be funded from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund’s 2026 allocation, with the money earmarked for priority infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation and core training assets.
According to the presidency, the decision followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission. The meeting reviewed student intake capacity, funding realities, academic quality assurance and the long-term manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force, which is currently expanding recruitment.
Tinubu said the expansion of the academy would strengthen institutional governance, modern policing education and national security.
