NITDA and the Corporate Affairs Commission have activated coordinated cybersecurity measures following recent concerns affecting aspects of the CAC’s digital systems, with the technology agency also directing all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to tighten cyber controls.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, NITDA and CAC said they had activated response and assurance mechanisms in line with national cybersecurity frameworks to protect critical infrastructure and sustain service delivery.
NITDA said all MDAs must adopt proactive cybersecurity measures in compliance with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy 2021, and directed them to immediately review and strengthen their cybersecurity architecture against emerging threats targeting government systems and sensitive data.
According to the agency, MDAs are expected to carry out comprehensive security assessments, fix identified vulnerabilities and strengthen access controls across critical platforms.
They are also required to improve data protection mechanisms, maintain effective backup and disaster recovery systems, and boost monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to suspicious activities.
The agency added that MDAs must ensure functional incident response frameworks, including the prompt reporting of cyber breaches for coordinated intervention.
NITDA said detailed cybersecurity guidelines had already been issued to MDAs as part of wider efforts to strengthen resilience across public sector digital infrastructure.
It said the measures were designed to improve the overall security posture of government institutions and ensure the continued protection of national digital assets.
NITDA also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government agencies in safeguarding digital systems and advancing cybersecurity best practices across the public sector
