President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to business magnate and philanthropist, Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu, as he marks his 90th birthday, describing him as a national icon whose life of enterprise, generosity, and integrity has left an enduring legacy in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday, President Tinubu commended Chief Adebutu’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings in Iperu-Iremo, Ogun State, to national prominence as one of Nigeria’s foremost entrepreneurs and cultural figures.
“Chief Adebutu rose to national prominence as a businessman, philanthropist, and cultural icon who embodies the virtues of hard work, honour, and compassion,” the President said.
Highlighting their long-standing friendship, President Tinubu described Chief Adebutu as “a loyal, honest, and dependable gentleman whose integrity and humility are widely admired.”
The President lauded Chief Adebutu’s pioneering role in Nigeria’s modern lottery industry, noting that his entrepreneurial innovation has created jobs, sustained families, and inspired younger generations of Nigerians.
He also praised Chief Adebutu’s quiet but far-reaching philanthropy through the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation, which has awarded scholarships to countless indigent students and supported youth, sports, cultural, and social development initiatives across the country.
“His generosity and commitment to the common good distinguish him among our country’s wealthy individuals,” the President said, noting that Chief Adebutu’s benevolence continues to uplift communities nationwide.
President Tinubu further acknowledged Chief Adebutu’s contributions to democracy, national unity, and good governance, as well as his recognition with prestigious traditional titles, including the Odole Oodua, for his service to Yoruba culture and heritage.
“As Chief Adebutu celebrates this milestone, I thank him on behalf of the nation for bringing joy, opportunities, and livelihoods to countless families through his businesses and philanthropy,” President Tinubu said.
He wished the elder statesman many more years of good health and continued service to humanity and national development.
