MTN and Globacom Avoid Disconnection as Debt Dispute Resolved

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced today that the looming disconnection of Globacom Limited (Globacom) by MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN) over an interconnect debt dispute has been averted. Both parties reached an amicable agreement, resolving the issue and preventing potential service disruptions for millions of subscribers.

The Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, Reuben Muoka disclosed this in a press statemet on Thursday.

The NCC initially issued a public notice warning of the potential disconnection due to Glo’s outstanding debt to MTN. However, the Commission actively intervened to facilitate reconciliation and prevent service disruptions.

“The Commission reiterates that strict adherence to the terms and conditions of licenses, particularly those delineated in interconnection agreements, is imperative for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and other licensees within the telecommunications industry.

To prevent future interconnect debt issues, the Commission will be requesting relevant records and regular updates from MNOs, as well as adopting a transparent approach towards industry indebtedness.
